Collection of Art Quilt Labyrinth Art
Often when we think of a quilt we imagine a physical item stitched by hand or machine. A quilt often tells a story of their creator. A quilter takes three pieces of fabric (top, batting, and backing) and uses a thread to connect them - and in the case of a sewing machine two threads (a top thread and a bobbin thread). Our digital art quilt labyrinth designs are very much the same. Each art quilt labyrinth design is a digital representation in the study of the balance of past, present, and future expressions of reality (the fabrics of life). These realities make visible our life experiences and meaning making practices (the story that the quilt tells). The life fabrics are stitched together by time and space (two threads) - especially as we take time to reflect on life as we "walk" a labyrinth.
Each art quilt labyrinth design invites the exploration and discovery of the art quilt called life - how time and space has / is stitching past, present, and future realities of life experiences and meaning making processes together. Conscious awareness of these realities invite exploration of new possibilities. Historic mindful meditate processes associated with labyrinths help to bring conscious awareness of this reality. Each design has a corresponding scripture story or verse for enhanced devotional practice.

Hope abounds, yet at times it can seem fleeting. Each day another section of the art quilt called life is sewn together. Moment by moment life experiences and meaning making structures are stitched together by time and space. This journal invites the discovery of hope so it can be sewn into the art quilt called life in a most beautiful and meaning-filled way. Enjoy a hope-filled journey! The inspirational scripture for this journey comes from Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Meditate on the scripture verse as you ‘walk’ into and out of the Abound in Hope Labyrinth mentally or with a finger. Abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Abound in Hope Labyrinth is also featured on the Yep, It's Rosie Art Quilt Labyrinth. Like a physical quilt, this art quilt labyrinth features digital stitching that secures the design. In the center of the design an evening primrose thrives and multiplying along the path of the labyrinth - much like they do in the Badlands National Park where the picture of the evening primrose was taken by Bill Ressl. The path into the center of the labyrinth is intentionally green, for many a color of growth. The path also features yellow ‘stitching’ representative of the evening primrose flower that as a smell of honey or lemons.
Sh!t in a hand-basket? Fear Not! Sometimes the old adage “it’s become sh!t in a hand basket” is very real. Fear not - all is not lost. Each day a new section of the art quilt called life is sewn together. Moment by moment life experiences and meaning making structures are stitched together by time and space - in good and hard times. Strive to ensure that each day adds to the art quilt of life in a most positive and meaning-filled way. Be creative - treasure the journey. Pray boldly and discover the new opportunities each new day brings forth. The inspirational scripture for this journey comes from Jeremiah 29.11: “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope." Meditate on integrating scripture into the journey of life. As you ‘walk’ the custom Fear Not Labyrinth, mentally or with a finger, take time to recite the inspirational scripture verse and reflect on life.
Designed by Bill Ressl. Like a physical quilt, this art quilt labyrinth features digital stitching that secures the design. The design features a white hand-basket filled with a pile of poo. The path of the labyrinth represents a green garden path with piles of poo scattered about - the yellow dashes are a reminder that the light of the Spirit of Hope is ever present, even in the midst of difficult times. Walk carefully, but boldly. The design features piles of poo inspired by OpenMoji Pile of Poo 12.3 (see https://emojipedia.org/pile-of-poo/ - Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)).

Discover XMAS, aka Christmas, and be the light sharing the love made visible through the birth of Jesus Christ in the manger. XMAS – aka Christmas – is a time to remember and ponder the story of that first Christmas and the love that was and continues to be made visible through the birth of Jesus Christ in a manger. Although the world can seem dark at times, scripture invites us to be the light and share the love. Each day another section of the art quilt of life is sewn together. Moment by moment life experiences and meaning making structures are stitched together by time and space. Ensure each day adds to the art quilt of life in a most bright and beautiful way. Take time to contemplate the inspirational scripture for this design: “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). If that is truly true – what does it mean for life? “Walk” the labyrinth path mentally or with a finger – hint… follow the light string to the top star. Meditate and reflect on life – imagine being the light this XMAS, aka Christmas.
There are several symbols within the labyrinth art design, including... The light string has various configurations of lights. The 4 lights, 3 blue and 1 magenta, represent the 4 gospel writers in the Bible, and the magenta symbolizes the text of Matthew which serves as the contemplative scripture for the design (Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world.). The cluster of 7 reddish/orange lights represent the 7 days of creation, a reminder that a new reality is constantly emerging each and every day. The cluster of 3 lights symbolize the tradition of the Trinity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit or the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer - a constant reminder that we are not alone on this journey of life, that the Spirit is ever present. The large yellow light with orange center symbolize the balance of our own reality between focusing on our secondary/preliminary concern vs our ultimate concern - what overarching life focus (yellow, ultimate concern) informs our life's focus - what secondary/preliminary concerns (orange, secondary concerns).

Bill’s Auntie Rosie was a colorful and full of life person. Although life was not always easy for her, she always saw the rosie side. Remembering to see the rosie side is a blessing for each of us to remember, especially in challenging times. This art quilt design features an enhanced picture of a young Auntie Rosie standing in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago – the family entry point into the USA. And no, the face mask and shield was not part of the original family picture. The design also features pictures of evening primrose flowers that were photographed by Bill and Penny on a trip to the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. The flowers are a reminder, as is the picture of Auntie Rosie, that even in most difficult conditions such as the hailstorms, occasional tornadoes, only 16 inches of rain per year, and the trampling by wildlife that the evening primrose survives and thrives. It is truly time to admit “Yep, It’s become sh!t in a handbasket” and to see the rosie side of every moment.
CONTEMPLATIVE SCRIPTURE: “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
"WALK" THE LABYRINTH: ‘Walk’ the Basket Labyrinth mentally or with a finger. Recite scripture. Reflect on life.
SOME FUN FACTS: Rosieness is all around – if we can take time to see it. This picture shows a very young Auntie Rosie enhanced with today’s everyday essential gear (face mask and shield). She is in the midst of uncertainty, yet she names the particular situation in her typical colorful rosie way: “Yep, It’s become sh!t in a handbasket!” But recognize that although sh!t may fill the basket, in the world of being rosie the basket remains white. It is not stained or discolored. Even through the basket is filled with a pile of sh!t, an evening primrose thrives and multiplying even beyond the confines of the basket. Much like they do in the Badlands National Park where the picture of the evening primrose was taken. … … The path into the center of the labyrinth is intentionally green, for many a color of growth. The path also features ‘stitching’ that is yellow representing the smell of the evening primrose flower – honey or lemons (a much better smell than the alternative). Last, like a quilt of old the background is brown in color representative of what the basket holds. But in the traditional rosie way, primroses are scattered throughout the design. Enjoy seeing the rosie side of every situation no matter how sh!tty it may seem. Sew the art quilt of life one beautiful rosie day at a time - with love, care, & creativity.

VOTE - Be Counted Labyrinth
Available as -> VOTE - Be Counted Build-A-Journal Home & Lifestyle Products -> RedBubble -> TeePublic Mindful Moment Labyrinth Walk Video -> Vimeo -> YouTube |
VOTE - Be Counted! Created for the elections of November 2020. Take a ‘walk’ to enhance active awareness. Discover the significance of the sacred ritual of voting. Voting as a sacred ritual invites active participation in life and the recognition that renewal and a new reality is not only possible but part of our human experience. Mindfully walk the sacred path of the VOTE – Be Counted. Be sure to VOTE and encourage others to do the same! Voting is a sacred ritual that is more than a mere behavior that a politician can purchase with ad space or rallies. It is active participant in a ritual process that brings forth a new reality by your action, your vote. Share your vote, share your light with the world.
CONTEMPLATE SCRIPTURE: “You are the light of the world. … No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket… let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works…” (Gospel of Matthew 5:14-16).
"WALK" THE LABYRINTH: The act of voting is one action in the larger sacred ritual process of participating in a new reality that voting brings forth. As with all ritual processes, the journey begins by entering the unknown of what the new reality will bring forth – in an election what candidate(s) will win and how that will impact one’s daily life and future. Even before you begin ‘walking’ the path of VOTE – Be Counted labyrinth a decision is already impacting the future new reality. The first step of the journey is the conscious decision to participate in the process or not - should I vote or not? Do I care to be part of the future new reality – or not? If the choice is to vote, then the ritual process continues by walking the path to participate in the vote. The journey includes choosing candidates and making decisions where one stands on various topics that might be on the ballot. Determining how to vote – by mail or in person.
The sacred ritual of voting continues as one casts their vote – makes a conscious decision to participate in and believe in a new reality that is about to unfold. This is represented by being within the center of the labyrinth design, within the flame (your light) in the letter O. Within the center the vote is cast. It includes the recognition that the actions that have been put into action through the action of the vote is about to unfold – yet unknown. … … As one walks out of the center of the design, or the polling place, the path moves toward a new reality that one has actively participated within through their vote which is a communion with others. It is a communion of sacred participation, a unity with others (regardless of the outcome) that connects and unites humanity in a sacred connectedness. As one exits the path of the design, another sacred ritual emerges – a continued participation in that sacred connectedness that began through the vote (regardless of the outcome of the election) or a disconnect from that sacred act toward a less than functional focus filled with polarized division that destroys the sacred moment that occurred through the sacred ritual of the voting experience. That ritual reality is for another day, another labyrinth design – today, let us join together in communion by taking advantage of the sacred ritual of voting.
SOME FUN FACTS: This art quilt design expands upon the basics of quilting – two layers of something stitched together by something else. The overall goal of the VOTE - Be Counted digital art quilt encourages exploration of the art quilt of life represented by life experiences and meaning making structures stitched together by time and space. The design itself, as a digital art quilt design, symbolizes the “quilting” of artist Bill Ressl. He brings together layers of color digitally with his creative imagination to create visual artistic statements, many with audio and sound effects, that are then stitched together as the design is explored by others to imagine a renewed digit art quilt in life.
The VOTE design includes significant symbolism. The color is ‘stitched’ together with a mix of running stitches and outline quilting. The main background color symbolizes the darkness of oppression, disenfranchisement, and minimized resiliency prevalent for too many in our country and world. The path of the labyrinth includes stitching in the four Native American sacred colors of red, yellow, white, and black in support of the need for unity of life and nature. The feet are intentionally red, emphasizing the urgency of this moment in time. It is time for all to let their light shine, so others may see good works – this includes all of us including politicians set on dividing not uniting. The center of the design is the flame within the letter O. The flame is the light deep within each of us yearning to become the reality that we can be. It is the light of the Spirit within when one asks: “So how’s your Spirit doing?” It is the ground of creativity, of love, of life itself deep within that desires connection with others.
Although in a traditional labyrinth the path enters the center and then walks back out – in the Mindful Moment video the path stops at the center flame intentionally. It is up to each of us to connect with our center and to decide to take the next step – the step to vote and begin the journey toward a renewed reality walking back out of the design. Through the journey key words are illuminated encouraging a faith-filled connection with the Spirit deep within that transcends human constructs such as those often defined by social legalisms and even organized religion.
