Schematic-Based Cognitive Therapy (SBCT)
Integrative Model of Spiritual Wellness and Well-being
Integrative Model of Spiritual Wellness and Well-being
Schematic-Based Cognitive Therapy (SBCT) was developed by the Rev. Bill Ressl, LCSW and the Rev. Dr. Penny Taylor as a model for resilient optimization and integrative mindful self-care toward wellness and well-being. The model features four pillars of growth. The Pillar of Individual Action includes Listening Love recognizing mindful listening and communication are key in all relationships. The Pillar of Transformation features the A-FACT Framework, a 5-step process supporting individual growth. The Pillar of Internal Reactions invites exploration of the internal human condition and the external relational situation through the Psycho-Spiritual Bio-Social (PS-BS) Model. The Pillar of Relationality features the Care to Dare Relational Approach supporting resilience and empowerment within relationships.

Grounded in clinical theory, theology, biblical stories, and historic spiritual practices, each Pillar of Growth in SBCT serves as a specific area of growth toward a daily practice of self-care that refreshes and renews. Clinical theoretical and spiritual practices supporting the model include:

- Neo-Jungian Psychoanalytical Paradigm.
- CBT.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
- Motivational Interviewing.
- Mindfulness, including mindful breathing and mindful eating.
- An expansion of Journal Therapy initially developed in the 1960s.
- Ancient meditative tool of the labyrinth.
- Historic practice of prayer.
- Lectio Divina attributed to Benedict of Nursia, and related practices of Visio Divina and Musica Divina.
- Voices from Ritual Studies including Arnold van Gennep, Mircea Eliade, and Victor Turner.
